If you wondered which is the best co-working space in Klang Valley (especially for a digital nomad), don’t worry, I had the same exact question, just like you!

Back then, I struggled to find a suitable co-working space for myself when I first started my online business…(yes, I was always on the hunt for the best cafes/libraries where I can do my online work quietly without any side-eyes look from the waiters or patrons).

Access to co-working space is essential (especially as a digital nomad!) because you get to enjoy all the facilities for your work and network with like-minded people

Plus, it’s nice to enjoy free-flow coffee for the entire day instead of rationing my cafe latte sips to stretch the hours in a cafe.

a girl overlooking the window in coworking cafe with coffee.

(And yes, that was me pondering my life 3 years ago, considering the thought of becoming a digital nomad☕ while working in a cafe’ )

So after hours of searching, I discovered 27 best co-working spaces in Klang Valley that can accommodate everyone’s budget…and yes, some of which I’ve tried myself 😯

From the affordable student option to a premium package for your start-up company! The choice is yours 😉

Facts About Co-Working Space in Malaysia

When I first learned about coworking space history in Malaysia, I was quite surprised to learn that the first coworking space in Malaysia was launched back in 2010 by HUB Malaysia.

Prior to that, I grew up looking for a library or nearby neighborhood café whenever I am in need of a “productivity boost” (a.k.a change of workspace).

Perhaps you may wonder;

“Why does someone pay $$$ to be in a dull boring office?”

“Why can’t I just do my work in a café or a library?”

So if you have similar questions to mine, here are some of the pros and cons of coworking space and the productivity comparison that I noticed when working in a library vs. a café vs. Coworking Space.

Hopefully, this helps give you some ideas:

According to a report by The Malaysian Reserve, the Malaysian coworking space market size is estimated to be worth around RM 1.3 billion in 2030. (TLDR; there’s a strong demand for coworking space).

TL;DR, co-working space is here to stay!

Best Budget-friendly Co-Working Space In Klang Valley: Perfect For Students or New Freelancers 👨🏻‍🎓

If you’re just a student or someone who just started freelancing, spending thousands of $$$ on a traditional rental office may be a punch to your budget. 💥

Coworking space may sound EXPENSIVE, but some coworking spaces can be cheaper than working in a cafe’ (I know, right?! 🤯), so keep reading to discover them!

1. Herserlef

This co working space in Klang Valley, specifically in Sri Petaling, is named after a Dutch word called “gezellig” (pronounced Her-ser-lef) which expresses the idea of being cozy at home and mingling with friends and family.

As I shared earlier, cafés and co-working spaces may be expensive places to work. Spending a day at any Klang Valley café may easily cost you RM50 (USD 11) or more.

So, here in Herseflef, a unique local café-style coworking space focuses on guests paying for their time rather than their meals  (💗 this concept!)

You can do your work here and be charged RM0.18 (USD 0.04) per minute, which is ridiculously cheap!)

If you stay more than 4 hours, then you will be charged a rate of RM16.80 (USD 3.78), no matter how long you stay—way less than the price of a typical cafe’ latte

Daily Pass: RM 16.80 (USD 3.66) per day

I dare say that it is one of the cheapest co-working spaces in Klang Valley that you can find (cheaper than a café!)

Here’s another great affordable coworking space in the Klang Valley that is perfect for students to working professionals (who is great on a budget)!

What I do like about this brutalism-themed coworking space is that the team likes to keep things simple and affordable. How simple?

By stripping away all the unnecessary extras and focusing on the essentials, like high-speed internet and a private office space that really works for you.

While they don’t offer fancy open-space areas like some other coworking spaces, they do offer single private offices at great daily and monthly rates. So if you prefer to work alone, this might just be for you 🤓

Daily Pass: RM30 (USD 6) per day (private office)

You can book a dedicated private workspace for the day. This means you can completely focus on your work without distractions from others. This is a great offer as most co-working spaces with daily passes only allow hot desk arrangements.

But if you’re more of an extroverted person and prefer to mingle around in a fancy open space area, then check out Jerry’s older brother (yes, it’s a 2 unique co-working space biz owned by the same parent company) in the next category.

Tips To Stay Productive At Co-working Spaces

I tried doing my work at home with my son, there are days when I’m lucky if I get to write 1,000 words uninterrupted and there are days when my son just wants me to play toy cars with him 24/7 🥴

(But hey! That’s perfectly okay. ~ this is why I quit my corporate job so that I get to build my business while being present with my kid.)

When my productivity mode starts buzzing, that’ll be the time when I need to be surrounded by productive people, and head off to co-working spaces.

If you’re like me and have limited time at coworking spaces and want to make the most of your time in coworking spaces, then here are my 5 tips to maximize productivity in coworking spaces.

Tip 1: Plan Your Day

Take a few minutes at the beginning of each day to plan out your tasks and prioritize them.

I also highly recommend that you use a to-do list before you start your work, as this will help you stay focused and avoid wasting time on unimportant tasks.

Tip 2: Minimize Distractions 🔕

Coworking spaces can be busy and noisy, so it’s important to minimize distractions as much as possible.

So, try using noise-canceling headphones, closing your office door, or finding a quiet corner to work in.

Alternatively, you can do as I did: set my phone on focus mode (meaning all apps will be locked until a timer sets off, except for calls or incoming text)

Tip 3: Take Breaks (seriously) ⏲️

It’s easy to get caught up in work and forget to take breaks, but it’s important to give your brain a rest. Take short breaks every hour or so to stretch your legs, grab a snack, or chat with a coworker.

I like to use the Pomodoro technique (25 minutes of deep work with a 5-minute break – 25:5 ) and apply this for 4 consecutive work intervals. By doing this, I noticed a significant improvement in my productivity when I applied this method (productivity x2 more!)

Tip 4: Network with others 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Coworking spaces are great for meeting new people and building professional relationships. Take advantage of the community by attending events, participating in workshops, or simply introducing yourself to other coworkers.

I usually network and greet fellow co-workers once I’m done with my work. If there are plenty of tasks on my to-do list, I’ll spare the pleasantries for later.

Tip 5: Stay organized 😎

A cluttered workspace can make it difficult to focus and be productive. So, try to keep your desk tidy, put aside papers and documents, and use digital tools like calendars and task lists to help you stay organized.
